Electroshock Boogie VI
I have a problem. Fairly soon, I’ll be reaching the end of my knowledge of roman numerals. At one time, I know I took a test on them and I know I did fairly well. However, that was also during a time when I was sure I was going to be a scientist… or an astronaut… or a city sanitation services engineer. None of those dreams came true, and like anything that causes a feeling of disappointment, I have decided to ignore that time in my life. With an ego like mine, you have to surgically massacre anything that mind bruise it. It’s fragile.
John Douglas Kennedy, of Writing Incarnate fame, said something profound this morning. It wasn’t “ask not what your country can do for you”. It wasn’t “forgive your enemies, but never forget your names.” It wasn’t even “Wow, I think that one damn near shat out my insides. One more burrito and I might have been killed!” Well, maybe he said that. I wouldn’t be surprised, and it would explain the space-helmet. No, what he said was “WRONG! Electricity runs super hot! Cold inhibits its conductivity though.” Then he winky faced me. He fucking winky faced me.
This means war.
So John Douglas Kennedy, if that is your name (and if not, dude, stop using someone else’s name. It’s rude) time to strap your ass to the gurney, take a deep breath and BZZZARK your way to happy thoughts. It’s time for the Electroshock Boogie.
(maybe I should stop using Twitter so early in the morning)
More Than Meets the Motherfucking Eye
Yesterday was a damn good day. Apart from taking part in a kick-ass weekly flash challenge over at Friday Flash Fiction, I also got a copy of this little video game called Transformers: War for Cybertron. After an insanely long installation process, I got to poke around with it. I believe my tweet was…
I stand by that. I’ve only cracked open the Decepticon campaign on single player so far (I would have preferred to start with the Autobot campaign, but chronologically it takes place before the Autobot run). On the very first mission you have a “choice” of three Decepticons to play; Barricade, Brawl, and Megatron. Seriously, what kind of a fucking choice is that? Storming through one of Cyberton’s moons as the Big-Bad is a hell of a lot of fun; the only thing I really think this game could use is a decent cover system. I understand why it isn’t there though – the controller is already mapped to so many different functions (transform, cooldown ability, special weapon, main weapon, weapon change, reload) that I don’t know where they would have worked in another button press.
Online kicks ass also – making your own Transformer is pretty cool. My only complaint is that the number of chassis to choose from is very limited, and there needs to be more maps. I really hope that they expand on that with some DLC in the future. Seriously, a kick ass game.
Summer Time, MoFo
I have traditionally hated summer. My eyes are incredibly sensitive to light, so summer is a never ending blinding blur of killer headaches that refuse to go away. This summer has been very different, however. No, the headaches are not any less – I have a really killer one at the moment, and four ibuprofen has yet to take it away – but we’ve really gotten into the family activity thing.
Last week, we had our first restaurant experience as a family, the first ever for the boys. We went to McDonalds, and the boys had a blast. We made the entire day of it, and aside from running away from us at Wal-Mart, everything went really well. Beyond that, I also took the boys out on their bikes and that was just killer. Jason is getting to understand pedaling a little, while Thomas just likes to be dragged along. Later today, we are taking them out to the Fluvarium and to a playground.
All of this has made for a lot of fun this summer, beyond the great feeling of momentum I have going with writing. Everything is going really well on the home front, and we are working to keep that good energy flowing as best we can. So, good deal summer-time! It’s about time I enjoyed this season.
Places to go, people to click!
Wow, so much fiction has been going around this week, it seems impossible only to pick a few. Here are some that I really enjoyed, and a little more as well.
- David A. Hill Jr. and Filamena Young over at Machine Age Productions recently released the .pdf version of the game Maschine Zeit, and let me tell you, this shit is beyond cool. Not only are they offering you one kick ass game, they’ve also cooked up a little flash fiction contest. Absolutely check this out, and if you’re a gamer, get a copy of Maschine Zeit.
- Recently, Chuck the Wendig held the “I Wanna Do Laser” contest, which Pete Woodsworth took home the gold with his story. The entries for this contest were amazing; it was an honor to have my work up there with such talent. I do want to link to the story by Ron Earl Phillips, because it is amazingly good and hits a subject close to me.
- And last (but definitely not first!) the amazing Julie Summerell is holding a flash contest also! She’s the bee’s knees, and if you don’t write something for this, well, you suck. So there. Don’t suck. Be cool. Stay in cool. Give a hoot. To Infinity… and BEYOND!
