Good modern literature that ?

A friend is going away to work on a farm, and he really enjoys reading. Can anyone think of a good piece of modern literature that involves farming? It doesn’t have to be about farming. Thanks!
I mean fiction.

Well, if by "modern" you mean 20th century literature, I’d recommend that your friend read The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Not only is it about a poor farming family who treks west, but it is set in the great Depression — which is darn timely these days!!
